ABOUT US

The TechTilt insulated concrete wall panel system is the brainchild of CEO Lou Gagliardi. Known for his high ethical standards and dedication to environmental preservation, Lou developed TechTilt to make energy-efficient, durable construction affordable and practical to build. Our panels consist of two concrete layers encasing a fire-resistant, high-performing insulation core, providing strength, stability, and excellent insulation properties.

Our Founders Story

The technology behind TechTilt can be traced back to 1974, when Cyclone Tracy hit Darwin in the early hours of Christmas Day killing 71 people and devastating 80% of the city.

In the aftermath of that disaster, the young Lou Gagliardi saw how so-called “cyclone proof” houses were constructed – only to be shattered in extreme conditions – and he thought there had to be a better, more durable way of constructing houses that could survive such events.

That was when the idea of creating pre-cast, tilt-up concrete building panels occurred to him, a novel idea at the time, with the aim of virtual indestructibility and speed of build as the main attractions rather than any thoughts of environmental sustainability and dealing with the impact of climate change.

It wasn’t the right time for Lou to pursue this alternative building vision. In 1987 he founded the irrigation supply enterprise Agritech in Waikerie, building it into a leading and award-winning irrigation design and installation business with a list of impressive and successful projects known throughout Australia. He worked with many of Australia’s leading producer’s such as Australian Vintage, Yalumba Vineyards, Comit Farm and Oakville Potatoes to name only a few.

But when Lou sold Agritech in 2008 to pursue other interests, even contemplating retirement, the idea of using all his technical knowledge to develop this radical new building system again started to germinate. It became an imperative when, after watching the devastation of tornado destruction in the US and a mother’s grief on the death of her small child, Lou decided he could develop a building system that might prevent such deaths.

Now the timing was right. With the impact of climate change now being felt across the world, there is a need for houses that can withstand cyclones, bushfires and floods. There is a need for houses that tick all the environmental boxes – sustainable design, energy efficiency, sustainable building materials, waste reduction, durability. And there’s the additional benefits of speed of build, less reliance on skilled tradespeople, less vulnerability to supply chain delays, all at a price comparable to a standard brick veneer house.

The time is absolutely right for TechTilt and Lou’s vision of a truly sustainable house.
